About Us

The Chlorine Institute

The Chlorine Institute (CI) founded in 1924, is a technical trade association of companies involved in the safe production, distribution and use of chlorine, sodium and potassium hydroxides and sodium hypochlorite, the distribution and use of hydrogen chloride and the distribution of vinyl chloride monomer.

CI and its members are committed to ensuring the safe and proper handling of the industry's products throughout the value chain, by developing and sharing technical information, training and best practices for the industry, its customers, emergency responders and the community.

Chlorine chemistry plays a critical role in meeting many of society's most basic needs, enabling scientists to pioneer advances in medicine and public health, agriculture, transportation, manufacturing, telecommunications, national security, renewable energy and other aspects of modern life.

CI Members

CI's member companies represent the complete value chain-from chlorine producers to packagers, distributors, users and suppliers. The Institute's North American producer members account for a majority of the total chlorine production capacity of the U.S. and Canada. CI's packager members now represent a significant percent of the total U.S. market.
