As a public service, the Chlorine Institute regularly fields technical questions about the safe use, distribution, and production of chlorine and all other mission chemicals (sodium and potassium hydroxides, sodium hypochlorite, and hydrogen chloride). Anyone can ask a question by emailing techsvc@CL2.com or calling 703-894-4140. When your question is received, a CI staffer will direct you to an applicable resource. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below.
For emergencies involving chlorine or other hazardous materials, call CHEMTREC at 1-800-424-9300. If chlorine is involved, CHEMTREC will automatically activate CHLOREP, a mutual aid network in Canada and the United States. Read more about CHLOREP here.
Anyone can contact CI with technical questions, either by email (techsvc@CL2.com) or by phone (703-894-4140). When the question is received, a CI staff member will direct you to the appropriate resource within our library (such as a pamphlet) or redirect you to another resource for all non-emergency inquiries. You can expect an answer within a few business days. As a benefit of membership, CI members will receive priority and will have their questions addressed first. If you are in an emergency situation, call CHEMTREC directly at 1-800-424-9300 and the CHLOREP assistance network will be immediately activated.
