The Chlorine Institute (CI) founded in 1924, is a technical trade association of companies involved in the safe production, distribution and use of chlorine, sodium and potassium hydroxides and sodium hypochlorite, the distribution and use of hydrogen chloride and the distribution of vinyl chloride monomer.

Registration is Open for the 2020 World Chlorine Council Safety Seminar
Due to travel restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic there will be no in-person WCC Safety Seminar in China as originally planned. Instead, an online Seminar will be held on November 17-18, 2020 from 12:00-14:00 CET, organized by the WCC Global Safety Team (GST).

Join us on August 20th at 12pm eastern for the upcoming free webinar featuring National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Director John Howard, MD presented by the Chemical Sector Coordinating Council. Dr. Howard will discuss CDC’s guidance on testing and workplace mitigations and response to COVID-19, with particular attention to industrial workplaces. This event is limited to the first 500 registrants and open to member companies of any Chemical Sector Coordinating Council trade association.
CI Submits Comments to EPA on Asbestos Risk Evaluation
The chlor-alkali industry has a proven record of the safe use of asbestos within the chlorine production process. CI members believe that with the effective engineering and administrative controls currently in place, including respiratory protection, a scientifically-based risk assessment of the chlor-alkali industry’s use of asbestos in chlorine production will demonstrate that this use does not pose an unreasonable health risk to workers.
CI Supports Long-Term Reauthorization of Chemical Security Regulation
Chemical security is truly a shared responsibility. The risk-based performance standards within the chemical facility anti-terrorism standard (CFATS) are a model for regulation that works to achieve its intended goal through collaboration with stakeholders, which is why CI members wrote to congress to support long-term reauthorization of CFATS.
