The Chlorine Institute will be hosting Advanced CHLOREP Training at the Fire Service Training Center at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 21-22, 2025.  This 2-day intensive training program has been offered every 3 years for our most experienced chlorine emergency response personnel.  Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic caused CI to postpone this event that would have normally been planned for 2020, so it has been five years since CI has held this training!

Curriculum

The agenda is focused on chlorine emergency response scenarios involving a train derailment and breach of a chlorine tank car.  The two days will involve classroom training and hands-on field exercises. The curriculum covers the following operations, processes and techniques:

  1. Use of eductors (jet pumps) and sparge bars
  2. Patching a damaged chlorine tank car
  3. Drilling, tapping and welding on a chlorine tank car
  4. Liquid chlorine transfer and pumping operations

There will be a new session during the afternoon of November 16 – the Anhydrous Hydrogen Chloride (AHCl) Workshop.  This has not typically been a standard part of the Advanced CHLOREP Training curriculum.  Since AHCl interest is limited depending on company operations, this will be an optional session for training attendees.  Please indicate on the registration form if you plan to participate in this workshop.

Student Capacity & Experience Criteria

Registration will be limited to 45 students meeting the following experience criteria:

  1. Have completed CHLOREP Team Training at Mississippi State Fire Academy
  2. Meet the requirements for a Hazmat Technician or above
  3. Have hands-on field experience in chlorine incident response
  4. Are physically able to actively participate in all field exercises

We will also allow an additional 10 student spots for those that would like to go through the classroom training and simply “observe” the field exercises.  This “observer only” status would be appropriate for anyone that might serve as an on-site product expert and wants to understand/observe the more advanced chlorine emergency response techniques but would likely never be the responder to perform these operations (such as CHLOREP Packager Teams).

Slot Allocations

With this training being focused on more advanced response methods, priority for student spots will be given to CI member companies having CHLOREP Producer/Primary Teams, CHLOREP Level 3 Contractors, and Class I Railroads.  Slot allocations for companies fitting in one of these categories was provided by Robyn Kinsley via email.  Additional spots may be requested.  Please contact Robyn Kinsley ASAP to provide the total number of slots you would like to reserve.  After the September 30 registration deadline noted below, remaining available spots will be reserved on a first come, first served basis for all CHLOREP Teams and Contractors, as well as Class I railroads.  Please DO NOT register more students than you are allotted until Robyn can confirm availability for your additional spot requests.

Registration

The registration fee will be $400 for all students (including “observer only” students to cover costs such as meals).  The registration, waiver, and payment form can be completed by registering through this event page. All attendees must have CI login credentials (create your free account here: https://bit.ly/Login2CI). If you are registering another person, you must also have login credentials. Please contact Brooke with any questions (BLOBDELL@CL2.COM).

Please forward the link to this event page to the individuals in your organization who you believe meet the criteria and would benefit from this training.  Registrations must be submitted by September 30 to guarantee your allocated spots.  After this date, Robyn will follow up with those that requested additional spots to confirm if they can be accepted based on availability.

Once you submit your registration form, you will see confirmation of your submission.  The daily agenda and other event details will be sent at a later time when it becomes final.  Contact RKINSLEY@CL2.COM if a registration must be cancelled to discuss CI’s cancellation policy.  Refunds will not be given for cancellations submitted after October 13.

Railroad Partners:  Please note that railroad slot allocations are for railroad personnel ONLY, not for non-employee contractors used by the railroads.  Registration forms will be monitored to ensure CI policy is followed.
