133 Trained at Chlorine Rail Safety & Hazmat Emergency Response Training in Paducah, KY
CI hosted its first sponsored TRANSCAER training this month with the help of four major railroads: P&L (Paducah & Louisville), CN, CSX, and BNSF. In Paducah, KY, P&L is a Class II railroad that interchanges with CN, BNSF, and CSX. The rail companies are all involved in the transportation of various goods, including chlorine, and play their part by ensuring that first responders, technicians, and the communities are trained and equipped in the case of an emergency.
Over the course of three days, 133 individuals were trained from 30 different organizations. Furthermore, 9 were different fire departments and 4 were member companies of CI. We even had a few students in attendance from the Department of Homeland Security. A strong relationship between railroad dangerous goods officers and first responders is crucial for safety and efficient response during an emergency. CI’s Chlorine Rail Safety & Hazmat Emergency Response Training provides the opportunity for these relationships to grow, resulting in improved communication and collaboration, enhanced training preparedness, access to specialized resources, and pre-incident planning.
