Speaker Proposals Now Invited for 2027 HESS+ Seminar
Planning is underway for The Chlorine Institute’s 2027 HESS+ Seminar, to be held during our regular Annual Meeting on April 7, 2027, at The Westin Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Health, Environment, Safety and Security Plus or HESS+ Seminar will feature two rooms of concurrent presentations. The presentations are designed to appeal to a wide range of CI members. It is called HESS+ because the Transportation Forum was discontinued and we will have transportation topics in addition to health, environment, safety and security-related topics.
We are looking for presenters to speak on one of the CI-mission chemical-related* topics below:
Design:
- Safety by design, especially in capital projects
- Hose design and fabrication guidance
- Upgrading aging facilities – managing in the midst of operations
- Facility siting (e.g. temporary trailers and office spaces within operating facilities and fenceline neighbors)
Operations and Emergency Response:
- Accidental mixing prevention
- Incident deep-dives
- Startup hazard management
- Railcar loading and unloading
- Emergency response coordination, especially within multiple-company operating facilities (industrial parks)
- Materials of construction – metallics and non-metallics
Procedures and Regulations:
- PPE requirements for mission chemicals
- Compliance strategies for similar and overlapping regulations (e.g. RMP and PSM)
People and Training:
- Knowledge transfer with an aging workforce
- Professional development, gaining knowledge over the course of a career
- Working safely with a multilingual workforce
- Mission chemical properties/thermodynamics
- Use of AI, benefits and pitfalls
- Other health, environment, safety, security, and transportation related topics of interest to CI members
*CI’s mission chemicals: chlorine, sodium and potassium hydroxides, sodium hypochlorite, the distribution of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), and the distribution and use of hydrogen chloride.
